Many pundits express surprise – even disgust – that media stories of Graham Platner’s history of problematic behavior failed to discourage Maine Democrats from voting for him in June’s primary election.
What a worthwhile post! I recently wrote one for Consequence Forum called "What Peaky Blinders Gets Right (And Wrong) About War Veterans" and it touches on much of the same myth-making surrounding PTSD. I looked at this formula: War + PTSD = crime and violence back home... that's the myth, anyways, peddled by Hollywood and book publishers, but not necessarily the reality... in my opinion, having been to war and back myself, and known many veterans with diagnosed post traumatic stress, I do not consider PTSD to be an excuse for bad behavior... being depressed or anxious or stressed the eff out or diagnosed with any mental illness does not then cause someone to go rob a bank or beat their wife or drink too much or post really asinine things on the internet...
